Celebrating National Marriage Week

February 7th-14th 2006

"It is a pity that most pastoral and professional attention is directed towards marriages in crisis. If we are concerned exclusively with the care of the sick, we may ignore the needs of the healthy." Cardinal Basil Hume.

To help parishes do something to highlight this very important week we have put together some prayers, liturgical resources  etc for reprinting in the parish bulletin, or incorporating into the parish celebration of this week. Other ideas to mark the week include:

Holding a parish social to celebrate marriage
Creating an opportunity to renew marriage vows during Sunday Mass
Organising a week-long display of wedding photos and paraphenalia
Taking a collection for one of the many organisations that support marriage
Using the week as a chance to witness to the importance of marriage ecumenically
Inviting a speaker or hiring the Rob Parson 60 minute marriage video to facilitate some marriage enrichment
Re-examining pastoral provision for marriage preparation, enrichment, and support during difficult times
Using the Family Caring Trustís Couple Alive course to make a programme of marriage enrichment available in the parish
Sending a card to every couple married in the parish in the past year inviting them back for a celebration

In the Dioceses of Arundel & Brighton, Brentwood, Cardiff, Hallam, Hexham & Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool, Menevia, Shrewsbury, Southwark, Westminster and Wrexham there are Diocesan Co-ordinators of Marriage & Family Life Ministry that you can contact if you need assistance.
